Based on the information from, "Protecting Children from Unethical Persuasion," this book empowers children and teens to create healthy relationships. The top ten ways to set boundaries in relationships is a great starting point to raise a stronger child and allow them to grow into a safe and healthy adult.
Gretchen Day studied over 25 psychology books to learn about this topic as an adult, and wanted a book to teach her children on their level, but could not find one. She made one with her children's illustrations for her family. From her family to yours!
Gretchen has a bachelor's degree in Communications, and a Minor in Family Sciences from Brigham Young University.
As a writer and author of children's books comes these value based choices EMPOWER your children with ten ways to stop group manipulation and unethical group persuasion in politics, social media, religion, philosophy, etc. Once children/teens learn how groups use unethical persuasion to get them to believe/behave in a certain way, they will be less likely to fall victim to these tactics.
Each page of this children’s book begins with “You might be in an unhealthy group if…” and then it describes an unethical persuasion method. The opposite page says, “If a group teaches/allows etc. (describes healthy group dynamic)…it is a sign of a healthy group.” This book was written by a mother and illustrated by her children. The main sources on unethical persuasion techniques come from Steven Hassan's, "Freedom of Mind," and the BITE model, as well as Janja Lalich and Madeliene Tobias, "Take Back Your Life," Bounded Choice Model. These resource books are written by the top professionals in the area of cults and unhealthy group dynamics.
" A great tool for folks to discuss issues of authoritarian control with children!"- Steven Hassan, PhD, author of Combating Cult Mind Control
“This is such an important and necessary book. Teaching our children about the risks and potential dangers of high-demand groups and cults should be a top priority at this time. As a cult educator, I am honored that my bounded-choice framework was utilized to help explain the processes of manipulation and coercive control.”- Janja Lalich, Ph.D. Professor Emerita of Sociology, Specialist in cults, extremism, human trafficking, and coercive influence & control. Author of Escaping Utopia: Growing Up in a Cult, Getting Out and Starting Over:

Empower children, teens, and adults with critical thinking skills. From the writer and author of children's books anchored in value based choices. In this story, learn about confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance, and closed vs. open thinking from a group of Venusians who have been taught that apples can only be green. What happens when Venusians see a red apple tree on Mars? Will they consider the evidence and change their belief system?
How will their family and friends react to their new ideas? Do we use critical thinking skills with our deeply held belief systems, political ideologies and/or faiths? Includes a glossary and discussion questions to address these subjects. Discussion questions are based on Janja Lalich’s, PhD., Bounded Choice Model., as well as Steven Hassan’s, PhD., BITE model.
From the writer and author of children's books anchored in value based choices. Children learn through repetition. If we do not repeatedly teach children core values, we are teaching them that values are not important. Using a fun title and catchy acronym, empower your children by adopting a value-based motto. “Being POSITIVE and PRESENT makes us SAFER, K?” Positivity, Present Mindfulness, Service, Appreciation, Forgiveness (not holding grudges), Eternal Love, Respect and Kindness. Practice these values daily for best results!
When a child is born, we often give them a name, a nationality, a race, a religion, a culture, and a belief system. Children then spend the rest of their lives either defending what they were taught or break out of the box and choose to believe differently. This book explores choice regarding belief systems in society and teaches children that, when necessary, belief systems CAN change. At the end of the day, a belief is their CHOICE! Enjoy a young boy’s story of his first job in the early 1900s threshing hay with a horse-drawn thresher. This book embodies the value of hard work and how it is important to always do our best. It encapsulates the message of expecting to be paid commensurate to one’s dedication or productivity on the job or in a career regardless of age. Teaching our children the value of hard work at an early age is a dying art. Our ancestors did not have the luxuries we enjoy, and a hard day’s work meant being able to survive in the early 1900s. It is important to remember where we came from and continue to emulate the hard work ethic of our ancestors, even if life maybe vastly different in today’s society. From the writer and author of children's books anchored in value based choices.
